As Gold Sponsor of the 2026 Inspiring Women Program, Donaldson Watched Dr. Marguerite Weston Set the Tone for the Night

Dublin, Ohio, is home to a lot of quiet expertise. But every so often, one of our neighbors gets a bigger stage to share it on.

This June, Dr. Marguerite Weston, Functional Medicine Director at Donaldson Plastic Surgery, addressed a room filled with Central Ohio's business, nonprofit and civic leaders as part of Columbus Monthly and Columbus CEO's third annual Inspiring Women event at The Ellis.

Donaldson served as Gold Sponsor of the evening, which honored 21 women from across the business, nonprofit, education and government sectors who are actively making a profound difference in the Columbus region.

An Ambitious Effort to Demand More For Our Health

Ushering in the event, Dr. Weston spoke about what patients should be able to expect from their care practitioners, and how functional medicine helps bridge the gap between what conventional healthcare offers and what some people actually need.

She opened by taking the room back 15 years, to a version of herself many in Dublin will recognize from their own health experiences.

"I'm in Oklahoma City. I have my dream job. I'm one of the sports medicine team physicians for the University of Oklahoma. I'm newly married. We're living downtown, & I start having these weird symptoms. These symptoms that I can't find the answer to. They're neurological."

After seeing multiple specialists at the advice of various providers, she was then told to repeat lab work the following year and report back only if things got worse.

"For those of you in this room who have been left with that, that's not okay. You should never have to live in a world where you're waiting for the other shoe to fall."

That experience, paired with training in nutrition, set her on an unexpected path.

"Thus began my journey into functional medicine, although I didn't know that at the time."

Dr. Weston went on to describe the new patients she meets each day — many of whom have chronic illnesses, but go to just their physical each year because they know that's what is covered by insurance.

These are people who've grown used to settling for less from their healthcare. Having spent 20 years in conventional primary care herself, she knows exactly why that happens.

"You have 15 minutes, & I need to check a lot of boxes in those 15 minutes. All the insurance company's boxes. So we just didn't have time. We're meant to come alongside, meet the patient where they are. We want to help women & men feel heard, then give you the best next steps forward."
