    Job Description
    Event coordinators oversee every aspect of an event. The events can range from parties to meetings, and they can be for businesses or for personal occasions. The most common events that an event coordinator plans are weddings, business conferences, birthdays, charity events, trade shows, meetings, and anniversaries.
    Most event coordinators are in control of every decision, from the concept of the event to who is going to clean after the event is over. In addition, they are in charge of finding appropriate entertainment, catering, and venues, as well as ensuring that the event stays within a planned budget. In some cases, they will be the ones who are sampling food, putting up decorations, arranging flowers, making out guest lists, and promoting the event. Due to there being so many time constraints involved with this profession, it is important that the coordinator knows how to manage time well and is able to work on short notice. Being able to budget the time they do have is important and will help the event coordinator work effectively. Along with those skills, they must be able to listen and communicate effectively with their clients, to ensure they are getting the event that they want. They should also be calm under pressure, handle stress well, have strong computer skills, be able to effectively negotiate, able to handle multiple projects at once, and be well organized. 

    As far as educational qualifications, a high school diploma or equivalent is required. In some cases, a bachelor's degree is preferred, but work experience can usually be used as a substitution. It is preferred that the event coordinator has had at least one year of experience coordinating events.
