The Dublin Chamber and its young professionals organization have partnered with Dublin City Schools to form the NextGen Dublin Literacy Program, and we are looking for volunteer Book Buddies. Book Buddies will work with Riverside Elementary first-grade students one lunch hour per week for eight weeks to help improve the students' literacy and comprehension skills.
The fall Literacy Program starts the week of Sept. 19 and runs through November 11. As a volunteer, you have the flexibility to choose the day of the week you would like to volunteer. You will meet with students at Riverside Elementary, 3260 Riverside Green Dr., Dublin, OH 43017 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. on your selected day.
A volunteer training session will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Riverside Elementary School for all new volunteers. Pizza will be provided. Also, all new Literacy Program volunteers MUST complete an online volunteer background check and state in the form that they are with the Literacy Program. This online background check can be found here: http://www.dublinschools.net/volunteers.aspx (Any previous fingerprinting background check you’ve already completed with Dublin City Schools is good for five years – and any online background check you’ve already completed with Dublin City Schools is good for three years.)
Also, please note that volunteers would not go to Riverside Elementary during snow days, snow delays or during any of the Dublin City Schools holidays/ teacher workdays, including Oct. 17 and Nov. 8. If you cannot make your selected day for any reason, please call Riverside Elementary at (614) 764-5940.
When submitting your RSVP, please list the day of the week you would like to volunteer and if you plan on attending the training session on Sept. 14.
