SUMMARY:Government Affairs Meeting: Weed in the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:Weed in the Workplace\n\nWorkplace Decisions & Actions to Prepare for Ohio's Medical Marijuana Law \n\n\n\nSeptember 8\, 2018 is the deadline for Ohio's medical marijuana law (Ohio HB 523) to become fully operational. And employers\, you've got some prep work to do! Before September\, employers must make a few key decisions then act -- on how they will respond to the law. But these decisions need to be based on more than personal opinion and assumptions about marijuana and its application as medicine. Decision-makers need to consider the operational\, financial\, and workforce implications that can ultimately impact workforce readiness\, drug-free workplace programs\, and bottom lines.\n\n \n\nIn this session\, we will discuss the law through a business lens\, share protections the law affords employers\, pose realistic scenarios for practical understanding\, and offer a roadmap to begin navigating these decisions and actions.\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker: Samuel Lillard\n\nSamuel Lillard is a partner in the firm's Columbus office. His practice focuses on general employment litigation\, arbitration\, and mediation. Samuel is a seasoned litigator with over 20 years of experience in representing employers in all Ohio and federal courts\, as well as a number of regulatory agencies\, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)\, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission\, the Department of Labor (DOL)\, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)\, and the Office of Unemployment Compensation.\n\n \n\nHe also advises both private and public sector employers on various employment and personnel matters\, including issues that arise under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)\, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)\, drug testing policies\, workplace safety\, sexual harassment\, employee discipline\, wage-hour matters\, protecting trade secrets and confidential corporate materials\, and the drafting and enforcement of non-compete/nondisclosure agreements.\n\n \n\nSamuel is also an allied member of the Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association\, and a frequent lecturer to the hospitality industry on various employment topics\, including public accommodations under the ADA.\n\n \n\nSamuel been included in Ohio Super Lawyers every year since 2009.\n\n \n\nReservations are required for this event.\n\n \nBy attending a Chamber event you are granting permission to the Dublin Chamber of Commerce\, the Dublin Chamber Civic Foundation and anyone authorized by the Chamber to have unlimited right\, without charge\, to use your likeness in photos\, videos\, recordings and in all media now known or hereafter created to be used and distributed in perpetuity for promotional and publicity purposes.
