Dublin City Schools
Superintendent's Message: One of Ohio's Highest-Rated School Districts
The following is a message from Superintendent Dr. David Axner:
Consisting of 47 square miles and encompassing parts of Columbus, Hilliard, Upper
Arlington, Delaware County, Franklin County and Union County, the Dublin City School District is Ohio’s 12th largest district with more than 14,500 students enrolled. The boundaries of the Dublin School District extend far outside Dublin city limits. In fact, more than 40 percent of our students live outside the City of Dublin.
There are currently 19 buildings in operation: three high schools, four middle schools and 12 elementary schools.
The district has received the state of Ohio’s highest rating, Excellent with Distinction, on the Ohio Local Report Card for eight consecutive years. Students met 26 of 26 state standards, achieved a performance index score of 106.9, met adequate yearly progress requirements, and exceeded the value-added requirement.
It is our mission to provide ALL students with the best possible learning opportunities. This means setting rigorous standards for all learners, providing support for students who are not accustomed to working at high levels, and giving our highest achievers more challenges to push them to even new heights.
We continue to grow and become more diverse. Our district has about 1,200 students who speak more than 60 different languages.
High school students choose from more than 30 advanced placement and honors classes in literature, English, Spanish, Japanese, algebra, geometry, calculus, history, sciences and studio art. More than 90 percent of our graduates choose to continue their education after high school.
All three of our high schools are proud to offer the International Baccalaureate Program, which provides students with an opportunity to participate in a course of study that emphasizes research skills, global awareness, critical thinking, the application of knowledge and interdisciplinary learning.
More than 300 of our students earned AP scholar honors, and 20 students were named National Merit Scholar Semifinalists in the fall of 2011. Thousands of college scholarships will be offered to our graduates this year.
Students also continue to perform admirably in extracurricular activities. Our athletic teams continue to win conference, district, regional and state championships in a wide variety of sports.
Our performing arts programs, theater, marching band, orchestra, and more, are among the best in the state. And, the district’s art programs continue to excel.
