Business Sector's Contribution to Dublin

The Dublin Chamber of Commerce is well aware of the crucial role businesses play in providing funding for city and school services. Dublin is home to a vibrant and growing business community that is the foundation for future growth, stability and prosperity. Taxes from businesses and their employees finance the majority of costs for city services and a considerable portion of school services. Without the support and participation of businesses, residents alone could not fund the quality of life enjoyed in Dublin.

Business Dollars at Work:

• In 2007, city income tax revenue was more than $67.2 million, which is a 4.7% increase from 2006.

• More than 90% of city income taxes come from Dublin businesses (payroll withholdings/net-profit taxes).

• In 2007, 87.3% of the city’s revenue came from local income tax.

• More than 80% of employees working in Dublin do not reside in the city, meaning they pay an income tax but do not use many of the city services.

• Dublin is home to more than 3,800 businesses with more than 88,000 employees. Roughly 35 businesses are headquartered in Dublin.

• Around 14% of Dublin’s 24.55 square miles is devoted to office, retail and industrial development. The majority of land is devoted to residential and green space.

• Dublin businesses financially support the city’s operations. The city estimates that in 2006 income tax revenues comprised 90% of its General Fund operating revenues and 77% of all operating revenues.

• Dublin City Schools received 33% of their local revenues from local businesses in 2006.

• Local businesses contribute more than 21% of the cost to educate each child in the Dublin City School District ($2,488 of the $11,539 cost per pupil).

• Business executives hold key positions on committees that are developing the community-based Dublin Schools Strategic Plan. These committee members also advise the district on school building design, construction issues and the best way to utilize tax dollars.

• Dublin executives founded the Dublin Education Foundation in 1999, which supports philanthropic and educational endeavors in the community.
